I am so excited to share with you the gorgeous little Dominik. He is such a gorgeous little spanish baby and he was devine through his whole session. All he did was sleep through the whole session except stop for a feed once. He is such a happy go lucky baby which is awesome. We got to capture some amazing photos of him and he didnt move a peep. Newborn sessions to me are such an important milestone to capture in life. They grow so fast and before your eyes.
Wow is an understatement! It has always be a dream of mine to be up against my idols in photography in both Australia and Internationally. I set myself a goal to get awarded atleast a silver from the Australian Professional Photography Awards being held in Melbourne last weekend. I have worked so hard to continue building my skills in what I love, that being photography. One area that I have a passion for is Birth Sessions. I love that I can have the opportunity to tell a story of ones labour through to the birth of a new life into this world. I love all the emotions that go along with the birthing experience. I love that I get to capture the expression on the mums face when she gets to see her newborn baby for the first time, the first feed, dads first hold, the first family photo, the first weigh in, first measurements etc etc. These memories are just PRICELESS!!
A dream of mine was to capture a Natural Birth of twins and that dream came true when a friend was able to recommend a client to me that was due to give birth naturally to twins. Yay! I was so so excited to be able to have this opportunity. It was always my goal to submit a series of images for the awards so I could tell the judges the story of the twins birth into the world. Sam was definitely a super mum when it came to labour and giving birth to two babies not just one. I take my hat off to her committment to birthing her babies without any pain relief. Well done! The birth was AMAZING and all went to plan so I was able to capture some AMAZING photos for Stuart and Sam but also to submit for the National Awards.
I designed my layout and got all my 4 images printed ready to be matted for the submission, booked my accommodation and airfares to head off to the awards so I could be there for the judging process. This is such a nail biting experience that is for sure. There was 3083 images being judged over 3 days and not all will be awarded. approx 33% make it through for an award. I sat there on friday watching the Illustrative category which was fine as I wasnt in that category. I wasnt nervous at all.
Come Saturday morning when the judging for family was starting at 8am in 2 rooms. This was my day! My legs were shaking, my stomach was churning and I was hanging off the edge of my seat waiting for them to turn my image around to judge! Intense to say the least! There is a panel of 5 judges from all different genres of photography to give it a fair all round judging. If the Image scores 80-84 its a Silver, 85-89 is Silver Distinction, 90-94 is Gold, 95-100 is Gold Distinction. Well mine scored 68,69,78,85. I have figured that its extremely hard to get any newborns images to score a silver and the same for maternity as they arent as unique and very common images to be entered. So my answer to that is I wont be entering that genre again lol. One of my birth stories missed being reviewed for Silver by only 1 point.
I had 3 judges tell me that I shouldve entered my birth stories into the Documentary category instead of the Family category which now makes sense. As most may know that the lighting in a birth suite is usually very little or awful lighting so its hard to set the lighting up how it needs to be due to the circumstances at the time. In the family category the lighting is judged whereas in the Documentary category the lighting isnt judged due to the nature of being documentary and not usually having the time to set the lighting to the right exposure. So now I know for next year so I can hopefully scored higher points Bring it on!
To give you some statistics on the images entered and what they were awarded I will list them for you to give you an idea on how hard it is to received a Silver Distinction like I did for one of my Birth stories.
For the Australian Professional Photography Awards there was 3083 entries in total, with 962 images awarded silver (31.32% of the total entries), 244 awarded Silver Distinction (7.94%), 87 Gold Awards (2.83%) and only 7 Gold Distinction (0.23% pf images entered)
So that gives you an idea of how hard the competition is to get what I got. I was in the 7.94% to get a Silver Distinction Award! How proud I am to receive it too! Thanks for everyones support to get where I am today achieving my lifelong dream of being a professional photographer.
I am so passionate about what I do and feel so proud when I hear my clients raving about their images to their friends and family. I love all the little nice comments on my facebook pages. It truly makes my day!
I have posted my images below that I decided to enter in the awards. All I can say is BRING ON NEXT YEAR!!! I want to go out with a bang in 2014!

This is my second image scoring 78 Bronze Award
This is my 3rd Image scoring 69 (very hard competition to get a newborn image through to silver or above)
This is my 4th image scoring 68 (the judges don't seem to understand maternity images as majority of maternity entries didnt make it to silver )

Good Morning Photo lovers, today I have the distinct pleasure of introducing you to baby 'Amy Kate', who's officially 5weeks & 3 days new today!
I had the pleasure to capture Judy's Maternity shoot at 36weeks followed by the amazing birth of 'Amy Kate' on the 12th August 2013. I can definitely say that Judy has a high resistence to pain that allowed her to be so super calm through the whole experience of labour. The sex was unknown at the time by Judy but Ross knew from the ultrasound but kept it under wraps until after Amy was born. I arrived at 6pm at the logan hospital where Judy was being assessed before heading around to the birth suites. They figured that she had arrived too early for the birth but actually she was 7cm dilated so not early at all. Perfect timing really!
I wanted to share the design of my new sample flushmount album that is available with some of our packages from our Newborn, Maternity & Birth Sessions. I hope you like it as much as I do. I can't wait for it to arrive so I have it in my hot little hands To find out more about our sessions please email us on firstname.lastname@example.org so we can contact you with more info on capturing some lifetime memories of your newborn baby.
Earlier on this year I put out a call for a Twin Natural birth that I wanted to be able to document for a family. I finally heard from Sam that had heard from Michelle (her doula) that heard from Michelle from Brisbane Hypnobirthing that I had been in contact with lol. Wow! What a mouthful that was. I was telling Michelle that I was looking for a twin natural birth to document so she put a call out to some of her contacts also so thats how I met Sam & Stuart
So this was all only a mere 5 days before the birth was due to happen. Talk about an adrenaline rush! If Sam didnt go into labour before the 22nd July she would be getting induced that day. No labour happened so it was time to be induced. I drove down to Tweed Heads hospital to capture the birth. To be there to capture the birth of Twins being born naturally was just a miracle. Sam was so amazing during her labour breathing nicely and it was all moving pretty quickly considering it was induced labour. I arrived around midday and she was about 7cm already which was fabulous. It all went pretty quickly from that point so fast forward to around 1.10pm when the call was put out to all the other staff that needed to be in the room to head on in. There was 13 staff in the room when the first twin was born. It was a surprise to what they were going to be. Well IT'S A GIRL! Yay! A pink one arrived first! Weighing in at 3250grams, 49cm long. Little megan has swallowed miconium inside so she needed to be cleaned out.
Now its time to deliver the 2nd twin! At 1.43pm the 2nd twin was born and what was it? Surprise IT'S A BOY!!! Weighing in at a whopping 3580grams and 49cm long. 7kgs of baby in Sam's belly! Wow! Yay! The pigeon pair for Sam and Stuart and a little brother and sister for big sister Alice. How exciting! So they were named "MEGAN JANE" and "GEORGE ROBBINS" and they are just absolutely adorable.
At 12 days old I got to do their Newborn Photo session. They were changed so much in 12days. Its hard to believe how fast babies grow so thats even more of a reason to capture these photos very soon after their birth. They grow up before you know it. Megan was a littel unsettled during their session but we still got some very nice photos of her but just not as many as I wouldve liked of them both together.
I got to see them all when they were 4 weeks old and have cuddles before they jetted off to Denmark to live for 12months. I couldnt believe how different they were then either. They changed so much and really settled into their little bodies. So so cute <3 I will miss them dearly and cant wait to do some photos with them once they come back for their 1st birthdays
I couldnt have asked for a nicer family to be involved in for the birth of their gorgeous twins. Thank you so much Sam & Stuart for giving me the opportunity to be there in such a intimate moment and welcoming your gorgeous babies into the world. I hope you really love the photos I captured for you from this experience of a lifetime for you and me
I wish you guys all the best for the next 12months in Denmark, stay safe and give the babies and Alice a big cuddle from us xx
Here is some photos from the Birth and the twins newborn session
In this digital age where everyone has digital cameras, scanners and home "photo printers", when people upload their photos to a local website or go into a shop and pick up a few hours later, we hear this all the time. How in the world do Professional Photographers charge $80 for a 12×8 when they cost just a few dollars at kmart?
I had the absolute pleasure of capturing the birth of Khovi Andrew on the 14th June 2013. Wow this little man was in a really hurry to enter this world! I almost missed the birth! I would've been so disappointed if I did. I got the phonecall just after Crystal and Max got to the hospital and that was at 10.20pm and I was ready to go and I got there at 10.55pm just intime for the birth at 11.16pm. Phew just made it with 20mins to spare.
At the beggining of this year I set myself a goal that I wanted to follow a few pregnancies right through to the end. I wanted to capture the pregnancy the whole way through, capture the birth then followed by the newborn session in the first 10days of the newborns life. I was delighted to have a lot of response for this as it was my dream to capture such an exciting story for my clients. This was something I really regret not having done myself when I had my two daughters so I wanted to do it for someone else. I have to say that this has been one of the most thrilling things I have ever done in my photography career and cant wait for the next few I have booked in. I am so thankful for Amy & Jerry for allowing me to be in the room for something that is usually an intimate moment for a couple. Jerry wasn't too keen on me being there at first due to it being so personal but once he saw the images that I captured for them to treasure forever that feeling was gone forever. These are memories that will remain with the family for ever and ever. Being able to capture such emotions just makes my heart skip a beat, knowing how important it was for Amy to have me there after having a horrific first birth last time and not being able to capture the moment.
Wow! What a week we have had with our business! We were blessed to be nominated in the Logan Country Business Excellence Awards a couple of months ago now so just wanted to fill you all in about the process it took for us to be in the running.
